The War
Major Glenn Gates Jacks was a pilot in the Marine Corp from 1953 until his death in 1967. He was the youngest ever to go to Junior School. He was selected by the USMC to represent the US at NATO in Rome. NATO sent word that he would not be able to attend, but the Marine Corps refused to send anyone else. He always scored at the top for his physical fitness tests and was selected to do an exchange with the Air Force. He flew the 106 with them. He was selected to do an exchange duty with the Royal Air Force. He declined because of Vietnam, choosing to fight with his fellow men instead. He started his last tour October 8, 1937, flying a F4 Phantom. On October 19,1967, he crashed his plane after taking off from Chu Lai. Major Jacks did this in order to save a village of people from being in killed in the crash. His plane was loaded with bombs, and when one of the engines caught on fire, he turned towards the South China Sea. When he did this, his other engine caught fire, and he crashed, with all twelve bombs detonating on impact. In doing this, he gave up his own life in order to save a village of people.
